Letter from the Secretary General
Most Esteemed Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen;
On behalf of Istanbul University Model United Nations Club, it is my honor to invite you to the 3rd annual Istanbul University Model United Nations Conference. The secretariat and I are excited to announce that IUMUN III will be in-person and held on July 4-7, 2022. I am honored to be this year’s Secretary-General, and I am grateful to be working alongside the outstanding IUMUN Secretariat that will stop at nothing to provide you with the historical and unforgettable conference experience.
Our Deputy-Secretary General and our Under-Secretary-Generals have been hard at work alongside our academic team to ensure that each and every one of your committees will be educationally stimulating and conducted with the highest level of diplomacy. Our directors are excited to engage with the delegates and provide an academically stimulating, inclusive committee experience for all.
Therefore, and in order to give our delegates the chance to explore and debate on a variety of topics, this year’s conference will consist of seven committees: Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), The Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM), The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+), Historical Crisis Committee and Joint Crisis Committee (JCC). The conference will continue to put forward its thrilling crisis simulations which allow delegates to react and take actions with regard to real-life crises in the UN.
The past two years have been a difficult time for MUN organizers and the entire MUN world. The secretariat and organizing team came together under the limitations of the pandemic. But it has become apparent that everybody is incredibly motivated and committed to make it work. Also in today’s world; a quarter century after the end of the Cold War, the world is by many measures less violent and more prosperous than ever before, and yet our societies are filled with uncertainty, and unease, and strife. And so I believe that at this moment we all face a choice between taking action and ignoring responsibility. Therefore in the spirit of the work of the UN and as a message of hope, IUMUN 2022 is held under the motto ”Witness the History”
We are so excited to host you at this year’s conference and we can’t wait for you to join us in July 2022 for the 3rd iteration of IUMUN!
