Beyond the repatriation of stolen artifacts, questions surrounding the ownership of cultural objects, artworks, and culturally significant human remains remain a broader international concern. Ownership directly shapes who is able to access, display, and control cultural heritage, often reflecting power imbalances between states, museums, and source communities. While the movement of cultural objects can promote cultural exchange, it also raises concerns about whether institutions have an obligation to return heritage held outside its country or community of origin. These issues challenge how cultural heritage should be understood in the international system.

Description:

This committee will explore how artificial intelligence can be used as a practical and human-centered tool to support sustainable development around the world. The focus will be on how AI can help narrow economic and social gaps both between and within countries, rather than widening existing inequalities.

Delegates will discuss real-world opportunities AI offers in key areas such as education, healthcare, public governance, and economic development, especially for developing and least developed countries. At the same time, the committee will address major concerns, including unequal access to technology, ethical and privacy risks, workforce displacement, and limited technical capacity in many regions.

THE JANUS INITIATIVE

In Tehran, a homeless man discovered a women’s cadaver in a trash bin while searching for food, unaware that the body was "hot". Within days, he became critically ill and was taken to a nearby hospital. By coincidence, a young Turkish doctor was wisiting a relative at the same hospital. She witnessed the man’s death and recognized his symptoms, blackened veins and anatomical shifting, were not natural. Sensing a major threat, she secretly entered the morgue, recorded clinical observations, collected a blood sample, and escaped across the border to Türkiye. Later, the doctor’s parent has brought this evidence to the United Nations.
