· Agenda Item: Addressing the Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza and its Regional Security Implications
· Under Secretary General: Pelin Onat
Academic Assistant: Ahmet Efe
In this committee, delegates will confront the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and examine its wider
implications for regional security. The Security Council, as one of the six principal organs of the
United Nations, holds unique authority to adopt binding resolutions, including sanctions,
peacekeeping missions, and the use of force when necessary. Composed of fifteen members,
five of whom are permanent with veto power, the Council plays a decisive role in shaping
international responses to urgent crises. In 2009, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was directly
addressed for the first time by the Security Council. Since then, the situation has become
increasingly difficult to resolve due to escalating conflicts and rising civilian casualties over the
past 15 years, making durable solutions more urgent than have ever been.
The Security Council addresses “The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza and its Regional Security
Implications” and urges all delegates to find lasting and sustainable solutions to the main
challenges, including protecting civilians, preserving regional security, and promoting conditions
that allow for sustainable peace. The Delegates are expected to prevent this issue from
escalating further.
· Ensuring the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in the Context of Climate Change and Environmental Degradation
· Under Secretary General: Rüzgar Bakır
Academic Assistant: Bora Gedikli
Climate change and environmental degradation are severely impacting indigenous peoples worldwide. Rising sea levels, deforestation, wildfires, droughts, and other extreme weather events threaten indigenous communities’ ancestral lands and livelihoods, often forcing migration or displacement. These impacts not only endanger physical survival but also disrupt cultural traditions, spiritual ties to land, and indigenous knowledge systems that have sustainably managed ecosystems for centuries.
Ensuring the rights of indigenous peoples in this context is a matter of climate justice. While indigenous communities contribute the least to global emissions, they are among the most vulnerable to climate-related disasters. Protecting their right to remain on ancestral lands, while also supporting those who are displaced or migrate to urban areas, is essential. Failure to safeguard these rights risks further marginalization, loss of identity, and erosion of invaluable ecosystems. This agenda item invites the international community to examine solutions that respect indigenous peoples’ rights, strengthen their resilience, and integrate their voices into global climate governance.
