Agenda Item: Protection of Human
Rights in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Committee
Introduction:
The Committee of the United Nations Human Rights Council
will be discussing the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in the eastern
Mediterranean region. We will be conducting both the historical background and
the current state of affairs with the approach of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights. In this committee, the delegates will try to put out the fire of
one of the most controversial and dynamic disputes in the World.
Agenda Item: Protecting the Rights of
Women in Afghanistan
Committee
Introduction:
UNWomen is an organization that helps women and girls worldwide by working with governments and civil society to create laws, policies, programs, and services that benefit women. UNWomen aims to address these issues by promoting equitable pay, better working conditions, freedom from violence, representation in decision-making processes, and long-lasting peace for women.
Afghanistan has
had a turbulent recent history. On 15
August 2021, the Taliban entered Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul, and took
control of the country. Human rights breaches against women and girls have
gradually increased in recent years. Despite earlier claims that women would be
able to practice their Sharia law rights, including the freedom to work and
study, the Taliban has consistently barred women and girls from public life.
Agenda Item: Embracing Unity: Western
Balkan Countries on the Path to Europe
Committee
Introduction:
The
accession of Western Balkan countries to the European Union has been a topic of
great significance and debate over the past several decades. This region has
faced numerous challenges on their path towards EU membership. Some Western
Balkan countries have been working diligently to align their political,
economic, and social systems with EU standards. This historic accession marks a
significant milestone in the region's journey toward political stability,
economic growth, and strengthened ties with the international community. The
accession process not only promises increased stability and prosperity for the
Western Balkans but also strengthens the EU's position on the international
stage.
In the European Council, delegates will assume the
roles of prime ministers and will work towards embracing unity in accordance
with the EU Enlargement Policy. In the process of membership negotiations, the
Council may face certain crises, and if so, will have to find effective
solutions to maintain European peace and prosperity.
Agenda Item: Enhancing
collective defense
Committee
Introduction:
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations to provide collective security against the Soviet Union. NATO was the first peacetime military alliance the United States entered into outside of the Western Hemisphere. After the destruction of the Second World War, the nations of Europe struggled to rebuild their economies and ensure their security. The former required a massive influx of aid to help the war-torn landscapes re-establish industries and produce food, and the latter required assurances against a resurgent Germany or incursions from the Soviet Union. The United States viewed an economically strong, rearmed, and integrated Europe as vital to the prevention of communist expansion across the continent.
Committee
Introduction:
The
War of the Third Coalition, starting from the Ulm Campaign, was a conflict that
spanned from 1805 to 1806. The Third Coalition consisted of Austria, Naples,
Russia, Sicily, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Lasting for more than a year,
the Third Coalition gave place to many famous battles and operations, such as
the Battle of Austerlitz, which is often cited as a tactical masterpiece and a
crucial point within the Napoleonic Wars. Following the battle, the Treaty of
Pressburg was signed by Emperor Napoleon I and Emperor Francis II, which led to
the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, Austria conceding a substantial
amount of territory, and the expansion of French influence throughout
continental Europe
